Seat Selection Eligibility

At Virgin Australia we want to make your flight as comfortable as possible, so now eligible guests travelling on our domestic network can select their preferred seat from 14 days before departure.

Advance seat selection is available:

  • For Business, Premium Economy and Economy Class fares excluding Saver fares
  • For Platinum, Gold and Silver Velocity Frequent Flyers regardless of fare paid and their travelling party regardless of fare
  • On Virgin Australia operated flights numbered between DJ50–DJ2999, and DJ4000–DJ4999
  • From 14 days prior to departure, up until check-in closure

Note: Ineligible Guests who are travelling with an eligible Guest in the same booking can select their seat in advance. However, if the ineligible Guest is not in the same booking (ie, only joined by TCP comment), then seat selection is not allowed.

Note: While we will do our best to accommodate your seat selection, operational requirements may result in your seating being reassigned.

Important Information

  • We are unable to guarantee seat selection requests as they may need to be changed for operational or safety reasons
  • Travellers will not be contacted if changes occur prior to check in
  • For privacy reasons, we are unable to advise the seat selection of passenger’s that are not on your itinerary
  • Eligible travellers who have specific seating requirements or special needs should ensure this information is passed on to our Guest Contact Centre or their travel agent to ensure they are allocated an appropriate seat as per their specific needs
  • Some specific seats may not be available through advance seat selection
  • Seat Requests will not be printed on your itinerary but can be seen on the Manage Bookings page

Seat Selection Eligibility

At Virgin Australia we want to make your International Long Haul your flight as comfortable as possible, so eligible guests travelling on our flights can select their preferred seat from the time of booking, until 3 hrs prior to departure, subject to availability.

For flights on our International Long Haul network the following applies:

Complimentary seat selection for:

  • Business Class
  • Premium Economy
  • Economy Class (excluding V-Promo fares)
  • Platinum, Gold and Silver Velocity Frequent Flyer members and their guests when travelling on the same booking

Other guests travelling on flights with the flight numbers VA1- VA 50 can choose their favourite type of seat for a $20 fee* or by using Velocity Frequent Flyer Points, This service is available from the time of booking until 72 hours before the flight departure time. Seat Selection for those not entitled to complimentary Seat Selection is unavailable on flights not operated by Virgin Australia International (for example, on codeshare flights bearing the flight numbers VA 100-VA 4000.

Terms and Conditions

  • Guests requiring specific seating requirements to cater for special needs should ensure this information is passed on to our Guest Contact Centre or their travel agent to ensure they are allocated an appropriate seat as per their specific needs.
  • For privacy reasons, we are unable to advise the seat selection of other guests that are not on your booking.
  • Not all seats are available for selection.
  • The price for Seat Selection will be the price published on our website on the date you request the change. Fees are quoted in AUD and are subject to change.
  • Velocity Frequent Flyer Points will not be earned on the Fee/Points paid for Seat Selection.
  • Payment in Points can only be processed by contacting the Velocity Frequent Flyer Member Call Centre on 131875.
  • We will use reasonable endeavours to provide you with your selected seat. However, we cannot guarantee Seat Selection requests as changes may need to be made for operational or safety reasons. If we are not able to provide you with a seat which is substantially similar to your requested seat, you will be entitled to refund of the Seat Selection fee.
  • Travellers will not be contacted if changes to assigned seats occur prior to check in Seat requests will not be printed on your itinerary but can be seen when you log in to the Manage Bookings page.
  • Seat Selection fees are non-refundable and not transferable to another flight or passenger except where explicitly stated in these conditions.
  • If the fare rules applicable to your flight allow you to change your flight, any fees you have paid for Seat Selection is not refundable and not transferable to your new flight.
  • Seat Selection on your new flight is optional and if required must be paid for in full. The original amount cannot be used as credit towards these new fees.
  • Changes to the selected seat can be made can be made prior to check in as follows:
    a) Change to another seat of the same value on the same flight without additional charge.
    b) Change to an available seat of a higher value (e.g. Extra Legroom) by paying any difference in fees. This can be done by calling our Guest Contact Centre.
  • If you upgrade to Premium Economy or Business Class in accordance with your fare rules you will not be entitled to a refund of the Seat Selection fee.
  • A refund can be requested in the case of:
    a) An operational disruption and Virgin Australia moves you to an alternate flight and the same or similar seat is no longer available; or
    b) Virgin Australia moves you to a flight operated by another partner airline or carrier
